To find the special bot in GPU Jungle, head to the Renderforest area. The gameplay features minimal cartoonish violence across each stage. For PlayStation die-hards, a run through Astro’s Playroom will be true bliss. Thanks to analytics company Newzoo, we learned what kind of next-gen games Americans played in the first days after the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Most of them involve collectibles and completing specific parts of the story.

Inside the capsule, another Special Bot (Lady Maria) appears to be trapped and needs rescuing. Replaying levels is fun enough to find the hidden artifacts and jigsaw puzzle pieces to complete the mural in the lobby, but there isn’t much incentive beyond that. Using the new PS5 hint system accessible from the overlay menu works well to track down tricky hidden objects and should make getting tricky trophies much more manageable in games like this going forward. Unique Actions and Challenges in Astro Playroom require players to perform specific in-game actions‚ such as jumping three times during a spin attack on ice or punching a hidden bush to reveal a secret bot. These trophies add a layer of creativity and exploration to the game‚ encouraging players to experiment with Astro’s abilities and interact with the environment in unconventional ways. Completing these challenges not only rewards trophies but also enhances the overall gameplay experience‚ making the journey to 100% completion both fun and rewarding.

Critic Reviews For Astro’s Playroom

Puzzle Piece 1/4 – When climbing in the monkey suit, when you go up the first moving handhold there will be a yellow handhold on the left you can grab, which reveals a new area. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – After crossing the bridge, instead of jumping up towards the end of the level, go down to the left to find this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – To proceed you are supposed to use the throwable item across the gap towards the next checkpoint. Instead, throw it at both of the moving areas to the right to reveal this puzzle piece. Puzzle Piece 3/4 – After the next checkpoint where you have another large ramp to slide down, this puzzle piece is up to the left across two breakable platforms. Artifact 2/2 “PS Eye Toy Camera” – On the right side of the area, defeat the enemies and jump across the small platforms to the one with the two coins and the wire pull on it, which contains this artifact.

Astro’s Playroom isn’t just a tech demo but a fun little platformer. It’s great that Sony is investing more in the Astro Bot franchise because this could be their answer to the Super Mario series. The level design is more like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World, and that’s a huge compliment.

The First Trophies

It used custom hardware that supported streamlined rendering techniques for better performance, or increased resolutions via checkerboard rendering. Curiously, playback of Ultra-HD Blu-Rays would not appear until the PlayStation 5. The second PlayStation 3 model simplified the design of the system both internally and externally, removing the many card reader slots and PlayStation 2 game support (but not PS1 discs, which work on all PS3s). This redesign also came with a branding refresh, switching from red to blue and adopting a new logo style similar to the PS2, both of which are still in use today. The UMD, or Universal Media Disc, was the physical distribution method for the PSP.

Astro’s Playroom launched over four years ago, but developer Team Asobi has since released a few updates for the fan-favorite game. Astro’s Playroom lets you control Astro on a 3D platforming adventure across 4 different components of the PlayStation 5. You can go through Memory Meadow, a cloudy realm of wind and storms. Or visit the Cooling Springs, featuring a beach party setting and a surprise ice level later. You can also visit the GPU Jungle, which, as the name implies, is more of a jungle ruin to play around in, and the SSD Speedway with its neon sci-fi backdrop.

Astro’s Playroom Is A Great First Experience For The Playstation 5

Shoot this box to break it, then pull the wire to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right at the start of the level, look down and to the left to see a group of three of the spinnable flowers. Spin all three to raise the platform they are on, revealing this puzzle piece. Artifact 1/2 “PS2 Multitap” – Shortly after that puzzle piece there will be an area you can go into on the left behind some purple vines. Light the fuse at the bottom with your ship thrusters to reveal this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – As soon as the level starts, turn around and head back across the platforms to find this puzzle piece.

The DualShock 3 was the PS3’s main controller, and the first PlayStation controller to be wireless (well, sort of; see below). It swaped the Analog button for the Home button, and had convex triggers for L2 and R2. Its primary new feature was SIXAXIS motion sensing that let you move and rotate the controller to control the game, a feature still in use today. The PSP Go was the smallest version of the PSP, removing the disc drive and having a screen that slid up to reveal the buttons underneath. Because the UMD drive was removed, the PSP Go could only play digital games, either downloaded from its PSN Store or transferred via a PlayStation 3. It also coudln’t use the Camera, Microphone or GPS peripherals without an adapter.

As spotted by Twitter user realradec, Astro’s Playroom received an update for February 2025 that added the PS5 Pro as an artifact. In Astro’s Playroom, players can obtain “Artifacts” from a gacha machine that unlocks collectible PlayStation products. Although Team Asobi did not formally announce it, the update also added the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds. Once players obtain these Artifacts, they can display their giant versions in the PlayStation Labo area. Finally, the update also changed Astro’s Playroom boot-up cover art.

A grassy plain looks beautiful in 4K, only for the plants to be topped with PlayStation face button symbols rather than flowers. A rocky wall you need to climb has cliffs jutting out that… are actually recreations of trigger buttons. It is yet another sign of Team Asobi’s dedication to imbuing Astro with a sense of nostalgic fun when coming across the many ways they insert PlayStation references into the world. And that’s on top of the way it blends some audio Easter eggs into the world that are perhaps best discovered while playing. Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a 2018 platform video game developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4’s PlayStation VR headset. It stars a cast of robot characters first introduced in The Playroom, where they appeared as robots that lived inside of the DualShock 4 controller.

Add-On Trophies in Astro Playroom provide extra challenges beyond the main game. SC88 LINK include trophies for rescuing special bots like the Selen bot from Returnal and the Ape Escape bot. Each requires specific actions‚ such as solving riddles or interacting with the environment. While not needed for the Platinum Trophy‚ they add depth and fun‚ celebrating PlayStation history. Completing these unlocks unique achievements and brings you closer to 100% completion‚ making them a great bonus for dedicated players. In Astro’s Playroom, the adaptive triggers come up a lot, but the most obvious demonstration of them is when Astro hops into a spring suit.

Astro’s Playroom is a 2020 platform game developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. The game was created to demonstrate the features of the DualSense Wireless Controller and new PS5. If you happen to be one of the lucky few with a PlayStation 5 this holiday season, there aren’t going to be a ton of games that really show off all the fancy features of this giant white tower in your house. Lucky for you, Astro’s Playroom is one of the best showpieces of the PS5, setting a new standard for what this next generation is really capable of. In one level, I run Astro through a rainstorm, and an automatic umbrella pops up out of his head.
